Everyone loves getting Christmas cards. They are meaningful and many of us won’t want to throw them out. But holding on to them means they will just end up taking up space in a drawer or cabinet.

Well, what if I told you that you can reuse your Christmas cards to turn them into decorations that will make your home look festive for years to come? Here are some ideas that may inspire you.

Cut out the Pictures and Use Them for Gift Tags

One idea is to cut out the images on your card. Then cut a hole on the top that you can tie a ribbon through. Attach them to gifts with a ‘to’ and ‘from’ on the back to let your recipient know who the giver is.

Frame Them and Place Them Around Your Home

You can also put your cards inside a small frame. Next Christmas, take these framed pieces out and place them around your home. They will work as lovely decorations.

Use the as Pages for Holiday Recipes

If you enjoy making seasonal meals around holiday time, you will want those recipes to stand out. Write them on the back of the top part of your cards so they are easy to find. They also make a lovely way for you to pass them on to friends and relatives.

Donate Them to St. Jude’s

St. Jude will accept the front side of Christmas cards with no writing and give them to the children they work with so they can make new cards out of them. Cut off the front and send them to St. Jude’s Ranch for Children where they will be used as a therapeutic way for abused and neglected children to express themselves. Keep in mind that they will not be able to accept cards from Hallmark, Disney or American Greeting.

Turn Them into Christmas Ornaments

Christmas cards make terrific ornaments. For a simple solution, just cut out the front. Punch a hole through the top and tie a ribbon through it so you can hang it on your tree. If you are more skilled, you may want to incorporate origami to create a more complex design.

Make Coasters Out of Them

If you do a lot of entertaining at the holidays, Christmas coasters will make your table setting complete. To make them, cut out the pictures on your cards and place them on top of a small board or piece of cork. Put a protective coating on top and, voila, you have a festive and convenient way to serve your drinks.

Christmas cards don’t have to end up taking up space in your home… or your garbage can. The tips in this article will help you reuse them in creative ways that will add to next year’s festivities. How will you be incorporating them in your holiday décor?
