When Christmas rolls around, you will want to give the exterior of your home a festive look. The doorway is a great place to start.
The doorway is where you greet your guests. Giving it a terrific seasonal style will infuse the joys of the season, even before the festivities get underway. It will prepare them for a lovely interior that is sure to follow.
If you are wondering how to decorate your doorway this year, here are some great ideas.
A wreath is an obvious choice for a doorway decoration, but with so many to choose from, you are bound to be able to throw in something unique. Consider the vibe you are going for inside your home and carry that to the outdoors.
For instance, if it’s a country Christmas theme this year, go for a wreath with rustic elements. If you are doing something fun, like a movie theme, include some of the characters on your wreath.
You can also hang up multiple wreaths across the length of your door to take your outdoor décor to the next level.
If you decide against a wreath this year, there are plenty of other decorations you can place where the wreath might have been. For instance, you can hang a pair of ice skates from your door. Or perhaps a basket with some wintery plants. These ideas will give your entrance an out of the box appeal.
The Sides of Your Door
You’ll want to decorate the areas to the sides of your door as well. Toy soldiers and candy canes are commonly used for this purpose, but why be normal? You can change it up with fairy princesses, inflatable cartoon characters, Jack and Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas… and the list goes on.
Doorways are also great for illumination. You can place lights around the exterior of the door, in the archway above the door or hang them just above the doorway. If you have flora and fauna near the entranceway, consider lighting that up as well.
Do a Color Scheme
Christmas is all about color, and it’s not just red and green anymore. Decide on the color vibe you are going for this Christmas. You can base this on the colors you are using in your interior, the color of your door or choose other faves.
Capitalize on the color by using lights and decorations that match. Bring in other complementary hues as well. This will take your outdoor design up a notch.
Your doorway is the focal point of your exterior. Make sure it looks terrific this holiday season. What will you be doing to make it a stand out?
